James J. Drury III

Jim is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of JamesDruryPartners, focused on the recruitment of board directors, chief executive officers, and senior level executives. Prior to founding our firm, Jim was Vice Chairman, Americas and a board director of Spencer Stuart. Earlier he led its Chicago office, ultimately serving as U.S. Managing Partner. He is also a past board director of the Association of Executive Search Consultants.
During Jim's long career, he has successfully conducted over 400 search assignments for more than 200 clients, in almost every industry sector. His clients have ranged from Fortune 500 corporations to startup businesses in consumer products, distribution, retail, healthcare, telecommunications and manufacturing. Board clients have included H.J. Heinz, Sara Lee, Waste Management, Quaker Oats, United Airlines, Baxter International, Sundstrand, United Stationers, Brunswick, Kellogg and R.R. Donnelley.
He founded the annual Corporate Governance conference, "Toward Common Ground" at Northwestern's Kellogg Graduate School of Management, and founded The Directors' College at the University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business, chairing its Advisory Board. He is a member of the Chicago Graduate School of Business Advisory Council, a board trustee of The Museum of Science and Industry, a board trustee of Music of the Baroque Chorus and Orchestra, and a member of The Commercial Club of Chicago.
Jim began his career with the Boeing Company in strategic planning, and then served as a management consultant with Donald R. Booz & Associates and Ernst & Young LLP. He holds an MBA in Marketing from the University of Chicago, and a BS in Engineering from the University of Notre Dame. Jim and his wife Peggy are long-time residents of Barrington Hills, Illinois. Jim has been a horseman for over 20 years and in his spare time enjoys equestrian sport and brief escapes to their lake home in the Northwoods.
